I flew from London Stansted to Copenhagen on Monday, October 12th, arriving around 4PM. Marc met me at the airport and we took the subway back to his apartment. Then we took the bikes out for a tour of the city. I was surprised by how much colder and windier it was in Copenhagen than in England. But, I guess, it is on the North Sea!
The next morning we took the bikes out again, this time to Central Station to catch a train to Helsingor, thelocation of Kronborg Castle. We stopped at a bakery to pick up some pastries. Bakeries are everywhere in Copenhagen, and they are a cheap and delicious way to eat in a very expensive city.
Kronborg Castle is the location for Shakespeare's "Hamlet." It sits on the water where the North Sea meets the Baltic. The photo of Marc below was taken in the dungeon. The camera flash makes this place look light, but really is was very dark and creepy.
Carlsberg Brewery.
We came across this tree in in the middle of a park. It is a tradition in Denmark for children and their parents to celebrate the time when a child stops using a pacifier by hanging the pacifier in a tree, often with a note that essentially says "goodbye, pacifier!" There must have been hundreds of pacifiers in this tree.
I climbed to the top of the church spire above on a very windy day. The last few flights of stairs wind around the outside of the spire, which gets very narrow towards the top. That was a totally freaky experience; it felt like you could just blow right off of the top of the tower when the wind gusted. But the views were great and I'm glad I did it.
These are typical smorresbrod: pate, egg and shrimp, and ham, all on dark rye bread. These small open faced sandwiches can be expensive. A plate of three would generally cost about 160 kroner, or $32 USD!!
The Danish Royal Guard looks a lot like the British Queen's Guard. I think that might be because the histories England and Denmark are so intertwined. Denmark occupied large parts of England during the Middle Ages.
Marc and I went out on the town for my last night in Copenhagen. Here we are at Bang and Jensen in Vesterbro. I didn't get much sleep that night as I had an early plane back to NYC, but it was well worth it! I had a great time in Copenhagen and in England. It was a lot of fun and I learned a few things along the way too.

Thanks for taking us along with you on your journey. Love the pic of you and Marc.
